IMO they both should be ranked. But as long as they made the NCAA tourney that's all that matters.

yeah, I'm not worried about rankings...outside of the top 5, college basketball rating system is pretty overvalued...top 5 teams use it to jockey for a 1 seed...but everyone else is just playing for seeding, not a value given by the AP
I hope we get one of the top 7 seeds and make it to the second round...that would be a wildly successful year for this VT team, though with what theyve had to build with its already been pretty successful
good news is they return all but Lewis Witcher who is averaging < 5 min per game...and pick up Allan Chaney who is one of the top 3 if not the best player on the team already...and not to mention Jarrel Eddie
Before you belittle his response on it being laughable consider Tech OCC is 344 out of 347 so they will get no respect from the committee on that. You say they lost to last years champion. That champion is now in 11th place in the acc. Not very respectable...Tech has done a lot with little this year but as long as MD is being told by his coach on national tv to shut up and that he was the coach they have the potential to lose most if not all of their remaining games (except BC) and will once again be off the bubble. They may win a game in the ACC tournament and I hope they get rewarded for their play in the regular season of the acc but I expect them to be one and done in the NCAAs. Respect peoples opinions instead of taking yours as the only one with merit. Off my pedestal now let the love begin
haha so you're saying Tech could be out of the tournament??
that 11th place ACC team beat Michigan State, Ohio State, and lost to UK by 2...AT Kentucky
if UNC is in the SEC West...they are in first place and goin to the Big Dance
lots of coaches have had problems with their star players...thats the nature of those types of players, not those types of programs
stranger things have happened....a couple years ago no acc team had ever been left out of the dance with a winning league record but lol and behold Carolina got picked over Va even though Va had beat them during the regular season. Im just saying Tech has played some good ball in the regular season but just like their football team with the exception of last year they play nobody during the regular season and it comes back and bites them in the butt. I d love for Va tech to be a player in the NCAAs this year but just dont look for them in the sweet 16. In the same breath watch Carolina with 9 league losses get hot and win a couple and then win one in the tournament and I wouldnt be suprised because of name recognition they would be in the NCAAs. Like I say stranger things have happened.
I don't think anyone has expected VT to be a player in the Sweet 16 this year, I even said like 3 posts ago that if they get into the 2nd round it would be a wildly successful year
next year is a different story, they should start out ranked next year and the schedule will be much better, so a 20-win season and top 5 bid aren't out of the question
Ill give you that .......if everyone returns they could be a powerhouse with one glaring weakness and that would be their ability to hit the board. If Raines comes around it will help but unfortunately Allen will continue to be a liability. All that talent but he doesnt have a clue. Also its possible someone may convince MD he should go pro. Personally I dont see it. He will never be a point but maybe if he played exclusively as a shooting guard well nah dont see it happening. He is just not physically big enough for it. They will definitely be able to score points next year. I have watched the transfer from Florida in practice and he may make people forget MD.
Chaney's best attribute is his rebounding, he is 6'10 and can handle like a wing...Allen's inability to pul a lot of rebounds this year have been for a couple reasons
the biggest reason is that he hasn't been able to stay in the game long because of foul trouble...
but another reason is that we are using him to defend the 5, and when he goes against someone like Zoubek or any of Wake's bigs, at (a generous) 6'7, he is giving up a lot of height and length...you have to remember as a freshman he averaged a double-double and led all freshmen in rebounding...so he isn't incapable...its just a matter of getting him in the right match-ups
now with Chaney coming in and being able to guard other posts at 6'10 and rebound well, we can move Allen to the 4 and even to defend someone like Al-Farouq Aminu at the 3 where he is much better suited
I don't think MD goes pro...he is early second round at best, and that isn't a guaranteed contract and with a lockout approaching, that's not a position you want to be in...so it is shaping up for VT to be in pretty good shape next year
i still dont see whats so funny about VT being a #4 seed if they win out and win the ACC tourney
